Who we are
MedForest (hereafter ‘MedForest’) is an open-access, contributor-driven platform for news, views and happenings related to Mediterranean forestry.
MedForest represents a wide community of contributors and is not edited, although the website and platform are administered by the European Forest Institute (hereafter ‘EFI’) through its Mediterranean Office. MedForest does not necessarily reflect the views of EFI. EFI makes no representations, warranties, or guarantees, whether express or implied, that the content on MedForest is accurate, complete, or up to date, and to the fullest extent permitted by law all liability is excluded.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Subscriptions to the newsletter
If you subscribe to receive our newsletter, we may collect data such as your name, email address, institutional affiliation, and your interests related to Mediterranean forests. We only collect data that with which your expressly provide us in order to receive newsletters and updates from the MedForest network and EFI. This data will not be used for any other purpose or shared with any third-party entities.
Contributions to MedForest
EFI may, through MedForest, offer you the opportunity to submit, post, display, transmit, perform, publish, distribute or broadcast content and materials, including, without limitation, articles, commentaries, photographs, text, music, video, audio recordings, computer graphics, pictures, data, questions, comments, suggestions or personally identifiable information (hereafter ‘Content’). You retain ownership of any intellectual property rights that you hold in the Content.
You grant to us a royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable license to use, copy, edit, adapt, publish, reproduce, translate, sub-license, create derivative works from, make available, communicate, display, store and distribute your Content (in whole or part) and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, format, media, or technology now known or later developed (including without limitation in print, digital and electronic form) throughout the world in accordance with the provisions of these Terms. By submitting your Content, you warrant that you have the right to grant this license. To the extent permitted by law, you waive all moral rights in your Content. To the extent that you are unable to waive any such moral rights, you agree not to assert the same.
It is our sole discretion, subject to any rules and procedures applicable to MedForest, whether or not we choose to publish or otherwise make available Content on MedForest. We may remove Content at our discretion, subject only to our express obligations in respect of peer-reviewed articles.

Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

You can opt-out of having made your activity on the Service available to Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The add-on prevents the Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js, analytics.js, and dc.js) from sharing information with Google Analytics about visits activity.

Who we share your data with
Personal information collected through our site is only used by MedForest and EFI to improve your experience on MedForest and provide subscribers with our newsletter updates. We do not share personal data with any third-party entities. EFI is not responsible for the use of data through linked pages or embedded content.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
