The European Institute of Planted Forests (IEFC) has opened a new Open Call for collaborative projects, aimed at strengthening cooperation among its members in response to the growing challenges facing planted forests.
Planted forests are increasingly required to deliver multiple functions while facing intensified pressures from climate change. These include rising abiotic risks such as droughts, heatwaves, storms and forest fires, alongside biotic threats such as insect outbreaks, emerging diseases and biological invasions. At the same time, expectations are increasing regarding their role in supporting the bioeconomy, climate change mitigation and adaptation, fire prevention, and the provision of ecosystem services such as carbon storage, water regulation, soil protection and biodiversity conservation.
Through this Open Call, IEFC will allocate a total of 20,000€, to be distributed across three to five projects. The funding is intended to facilitate cooperation within the IEFC network on topics aligned with the organisation’s new strategic priorities.
The call is open to IEFC full members, with project consortia required to involve at least two members from two different countries. Associate members are not eligible to apply. Non-member organisations may participate in project activities but will not receive funding.
Applications must be submitted using the official form available on the IEFC Nextcloud platform. The deadline for submission is 1 May 2026.
