Under the Forest, the Soil: Voices from the HoliSoils Marseille Workshop

64

What if we told you that forest resilience begins beneath your feet, hidden in the soil? Across Mediterranean forests, climate change is reshaping what lies below the canopy, influencing water, carbon, biodiversity and management decisions. During the HoliSoils Marseille workshop, researchers, forest managers and policymakers came together to look downwards and listen.

Filmed during field visits to experimental forest sites in southern France, this video captures reflections on drought, heat and management choices, and on the urgent need to bridge science and practice. A quiet, thoughtful journey beneath the forest canopy, where resilience is built layer by layer.

HoliSoils
HoliSoils tackles gaps in knowledge on forest soil processes and aims to harmonise available soil monitoring information to support decision making towards climate and sustainability goals. HoliSoils identifies and tests novel soil management practices aiming to mitigate climate change and sustain provision of various ecosystem services essential for human livelihoods and wellbeing.
