The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations will launch the Second Report on the State of the World’s Forest Genetic Resources on Wednesday, 26 March 2025, with a livestreamed event from 13:30 to 15:00 (UTC +1). The event will take place at the Sheikh Zayed Centre at the FAO headquarters in Rome and online.
This important report highlights the crucial role of forest genetic resources in enhancing the resilience and productivity of forests, particularly in adapting to climate change. It draws on data from 77 countries, covering over 75% of the world’s forest area. The findings show progress in the management of forest genetic resources but also stress the need for further conservation and sustainable management efforts.
As forests face increasing threats from climate change and deforestation, the report calls for reinforced action to protect and sustainably manage forest genetic resources.
The livestream will offer an opportunity for stakeholders, policymakers, and the public to engage with the findings and learn about ongoing efforts to safeguard these vital resources.
