In the context of the increasing effects of climate change, the resilience of forest ecosystems has become a key priority for European policy makers. Forests not only play a crucial role in climate change mitigation by sequestering carbon, but also support diverse industries and communities through wood value chains. However, intense climatic disturbances, such as fires, storms and pests, threaten these valuable natural and economic resources.
To address these challenges, the RESONATE Final Policy Workshop will take place in Brussels on 10 February 2025. This event will bring together policy makers, forestry experts and industry representatives to explore practical, research-informed solutions to strengthen the resilience of Europe’s forests. Key topics to be addressed will include: managing risk to shocks and adapting to climate change, the role of biodiversity in forest resilience and the opportunities that the bioeconomy offers for more sustainable value chains.
The aim of the event is not only to share new knowledge, but also to promote dialogue between different sectors to develop policy recommendations that respond to current and future needs. Organised by EFI, the InnovaWood network and the Prospex Institute, this workshop will be held simultaneously with the EFI-ERIAFF Forest Innovation Workshop (11-12 February 2025).
