The Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe (FOREST EUROPE) is currently working on the pan-European forest risk awareness mechanism (FoRISK) to support the adaptation of forests to changing climatic and site conditions, as well as to improve the resilience and mitigation potential of forests on a pan-European level. This initiative also aims to strengthen capacity building and knowledge exchange related to professional communication on forest fires and wildfire prevention, focusing on the importance of sustainable forest management.

To work along these lines, the European Forest Institute (EFI), the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC), the Pau Costa Foundation and FOREST EUROPE are jointly organising, with the support of the Provincial Council of Barcelona (DIBA), the workshop “Communicating the important role of sustainable forest management to prevent wildfires” from 7 to 9 February 2023 in Barcelona, Spain.

The overall objective of the event is to raise social as well as political awareness and to develop general recommendations to strengthen the communication related to wildfire prevention and the associated importance of sustainable forest management.
