Young Leadership Programme 2020: Mediterranean forests in urbanised societies

The 5-day programme offers a unique opportunity for young professionals with leadership potential to interact with a network of global peers and experts, and share practical experience through group exercises.

The economic, social and environmental challenges of today need bright new thinking that will shape tomorrow. EFI’s Young Leadership Programme targets the leaders of that future, bringing young professionals together with experts to create a new space where change can happen.

The Mediterranean, with its ecological and social specificities, has untapped potential to contribute to the leading role played by the forest sector in the global bioeconomy. New ideas and approaches are essential to improve the management of natural resources in this diverse and dynamic region, while sustainable bioeconomy value chains must be created to realise the full worth of the region’s forests, to support rural livelihoods and contribute to the development of resilient cities.

EFI’s Young Leadership Programme 2020 – Mediterranean edition (YLP-MED) provides training, knowledge sharing and networking on Mediterranean forest-based value chains and their contribution to a circular bioeconomy, with a special focus on cities and urbanised societies. Young professionals will interact with global and regional leaders, network with peers and develop strategic thinking on how to manage and use forest resources to address societal challenges.

EFI welcomes applications from young professionals with a few years of work experience, both from Mediterranean countries as well as other countries working with Mediterranean countries. The age range is approximately 25-35 years. We aim to have a mix of participants from both research (e.g. PhD students), policy (e.g. young civil servants from Ministries) and practice (young professionals). Up to 20 participants will be selected.

The YLP-MED 2020 will take place from 29 June to 3 July at the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site in Barcelona, Spain, where EFI has its regional office.
