BiodivERsA is the network programming and funding research on biodiversity and ecosystem services across European countries and territories. This platform is made up of more than 30 agencies and ministries from 24 European countries that aim to program and fund pan-European research in biodiversity and ecosystem services on a competitive basis.

Since 2005 the network has funded 7 calls for proposals for a total amount of 180 million euros to fund around 70 research projects highlighted for their scientific excellence and their relevance for society and political decision making.

This year a new call for proposals has been opened covering topics related to climate change and biodiversity with the aim of covering four general lines of action:

  • Consequences of climate change on biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people
  • Climate-biodiversity feedback processes
  • Potential of nature-based solutions for mitigating and adapting to climate change
  • Synergies and trade-offs between policies on biodiversity, climate and other relevant sectors, and the role of agents of change

For those interested in submitting a project proposal, it should be noted that the deadline for submission of proposals consists of two phases. The first is mandatory and will take place on Tuesday 5 November 2019 (pre-proposal submission), and the last deadline is set for 10 April 2020 (full-proposal submission).
