PhD position in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science for Forest Ecosystems

Eurecat Technology Centre and the University of Lleida (UdL) offer a full-time PhD position to conduct groundbreaking research on forest ecosystems based on artificial intelligence and big data. The title of the PhD project is “Multi-scale characterization of forest ecosystem structure, dynamics, diversity and ecosystem services based on Artificial Intelligence and BigData technology”. The research topics will be further specified and adjusted based on the skills, background and interests of the selected candidate.

Applicants must have good programming skills (mainly R and Python), strong motivation and background on forest ecology and remote sensing, as well as on analysing large data-sets. Good English skills, both written and spoken, are also necessary. Candidates must have an official Master’s degree (at least 60 ECTS), having covered at least 300 ECTS throughout the university studies.

The PhD thesis will be developed between the Departament of Crop and Forest Sciences of the University of Lleida and Eurecat within the framework of the Global Forest Biodiversity Initiative (GFBI) Hub, located at UdL. The PhD supervisor will be Dr. Sergio de Miguel, Head of the UdL-GFBI Hub, and Eurecat will provide co-supervision under the coordination of Mr. Gabriel Anzaldi.

The application must be submitted before 16 June 2019. A personal interview may also be requested before the final selection of the PhD candidate.
