Facing forest fires: towards a new paradigm for Europe and the Mediterranean

Leading experts in forest fires will meet in Barcelona to exchange ideas and strategies to address the increasing threat from wildfire in Europe and the Mediterranean.

Researchers, practitioners and policy makers are invited to join this open seminar, held at Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, Barcelona, on 11 February.

Christos Stylianides, European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid & Crisis Management, will describe a European initiative to safeguard citizens against wildfire, “Strengthening EU civil protection through rescEU: an example of an emerging “Europe That Protects“.

Subsequently, Inazio Martinez de Arano, Head of EFI Mediterranean Facility, will moderate a roundtable discussion on innovative approaches for forest fire prevention and management. Panellists will include Carmen Hernando Lara, Director of CIFOR-INIA, Spain, and Marc Castellnou, Head of the Forest Stewardship Support Group (GRAF) of the Government of Catalonia, Spain.

An opportunity for networking and refreshments follows the discussion.

The event, which is free of charge to attend, is organised by EFI in collaboration with the European Commission.
